We are pleased to announce that Wendy Ballinger joined the Associates of the Boston Public Library this week as our first Director of Development.
She will be working to expand the Associates’ already substantial support for the Boston Public Library’s critical work of conserving, cataloging, and digitizing the truly remarkable holdings in its Special Collections.
Wendy brings over two decades of experience in non-profit management and fundraising. She comes to the Associates from One Family, Inc., a Massachusetts human services non-profit, where she served as Director of Development and Communications. Prior to that position, she was the principal of Ballinger Consulting, a boutique development consulting firm working with non-profits in education, health and social services, and arts and culture across Massachusetts. In addition, for ten years Wendy served as the Executive Director of Boston’s Ford Hall Forum responsible for programming and raising support for the nation’s oldest continuing public lecture series.

She is joining the Associates at a very exciting time. Among the projects that are currently being undertaken are digitization of City of Boston tax records dating from the late 1700s and early 1800s providing a snapshot as to how and where the city’s population lived at the turn of that century, conservation and digitization of French posters from the Library’s Print Department to both preserve and make them more readily available, as well as the assessment of several hundred fragile rolled posters to determine the best method for their preservation.
If you are interested in learning more about any of these projects, or other ways you can contribute to the work of the Associates, please reach out to Wendy by email at wballinger@bpl.org or by telephone at 617-536-3886.
