Meet our newest Writer-in-Residence

The Associates of the Boston Public Library is thrilled to announce that Danielle Emerson, living in Providence, Rhode Island, and originally from Shiprock, New Mexico, has been awarded the 2023-2024 Writer-in-Residence. Her standout submission, Shíghandí Ba’ Halne’: The Stories of Home, was selected from a pool of incredibly talented candidates through a blind judging process. Upon learning the news, Danielle said, "I literally couldn't stop smiling--I felt so much joy! I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to further my writing and want to acknowledge the generous support of the Associates and those who saw promise in my work.”

Origins and Inspiration
Hailing from Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation, Danielle Emerson draws inspiration from her Diné heritage. Her writing is grounded in the experiences of her community and culture, reflecting a genuine connection to her roots.

With a double concentration in Education Studies and Literary Arts from Brown University, Danielle possesses a strong foundation for her creative endeavors. Her work spans fiction, poetry, plays, and reflective essays, demonstrating versatility in her storytelling.
